Fat Bear Week at Katmai National Park in Alaska on September 23. It was a fantastic experience. We flew into Anchorage to meet our guide, Justin, and the group, which consisted of only five people. We then took a float plane to Katmai National Park. Our flight to King Salmon on the Alaska Peninsula was stunning, with the fall colors changing below us. We stayed at King Salmon Lodge for the next five days—a very comfortable and rustic place. We flew to Brooks Falls several times to photograph bears and attended Bear School. We also spent a day on the river Naknek in small inflatable boats, with the guides handling all the hard work. The day was filled with taking pictures and watching bears, cubs, and large males fishing in the river.
Brooks Falls was crazy fun, bears fishing, chasing each other, for the most part they respected each other's space, to busy eating for the winter sleep. I will be posting pictures of this trip in the "Bear" box.
